UPDATE (8/20/26): The City of Dublin has lifted its boil water advisory after testing confirmed the water system meets safety standards.

Residents and businesses may resume normal water use. The city said some customers may temporarily notice higher-than-normal chlorine levels as crews continue flushing the system through open fire hydrants.

West Laurens Middle School will return to its regular schedule Friday after the City of Dublin lifted its boil water advisory, according to the Laurens County School System.

Students and staff should report at their normal times.

UPDATE (8/19/26): Dublin City Schools and West Laurens Middle School will remain closed Thursday as a boil water advisory continues following a major water main break.

Dublin City Schools announced Wednesday that there will be no school Thursday for students or staff.

The district said it made the decision after speaking with City of Dublin officials. While repairs to the water main break have been completed, the city remains under a boil water advisory.

The district said it will continue monitoring the situation and provide updates as they become available.

West Laurens Middle School will also remain closed Thursday due to the ongoing boil water advisory, according to the Laurens County School System. All activities on the West Laurens Middle School campus are also canceled Thursday.

The district said the decision was made to ensure health and safety requirements are met before students and staff return.

All other schools in the Laurens County School System will operate on their regular schedules Thursday, including after-school activities.

Laurens County Schools plans to provide an update on West Laurens Middle School’s operations for Friday by 6 p.m. Thursday.

Both Dublin City Schools and West Laurens Middle School were closed Wednesday due to the water main break.

UPDATE (8/19/26): The City of Dublin says repairs to the major water main break on Joiner Street are complete and water service is being restored.

The boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice. Residents should continue boiling water used for drinking, cooking, brushing their teeth and making ice.

Dublin City Hall will reopen at noon, and Municipal Court proceedings at 346 South Jefferson Street will resume with the 2 p.m. arraignment session.

ORIGINAL STORY (8/19/26):

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Dublin is under a boil water advisory Wednesday after a major water main break forced the city to shut down water production and caused several closures.

Mayor Joshua Kight said a 16-inch water line broke on Joiner Street Tuesday night. Water production was shut down so utility crews could repair the line.

“They have been out there all night without rest working hard to repair this issue,” Kight said. “Our town is under a boil water advisory until we can get the water back flowing.”

Dublin City Hall is closed until water service is restored.

Municipal Court proceedings at 346 South Jefferson Street are also on hold. The 9 a.m. court session was canceled, and the city said it would provide an update on the 2 p.m. arraignment session.

“I apologize for the disruption this water issue is causing to our residents, schools and businesses,” Kight said. “Please know that we’re doing everything possible to get service restored quickly.”

All Dublin City Schools are closed Wednesday for students and staff.

The district said the City of Dublin notified it about the break at 5:11 a.m. After speaking with city officials, the district determined water service would not be restored until well into the afternoon.

“We expect the situation to be resolved today and classes to resume tomorrow,” the district said. “Should that change, we will communicate any updates as quickly as possible.”

Laurens County Schools separately announced that West Laurens Middle School is closed Wednesday because of a water main break affecting the school.

The district did not say when it expects the problem to be fixed.

“Additional information regarding the status of school operations for Thursday, August 20 will be communicated to families and staff as it becomes available,” the Laurens County School District said.
