GDOT: Weather delays traffic shifts for I-16/I-75 project in Macon
Lane closures and ramp shifts are now scheduled to begin January 30, weather permitting.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Georgia Department of Transportation says traffic shifts tied to the I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project in Macon-Bibb County have been delayed due to weather.
According to GDOT, several traffic changes originally scheduled for this week will now start Friday, January 30, weather and on-site conditions permitting.
Starting at 9 p.m. on January 30, drivers exiting I-16 westbound at Exit 2 toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be shifted from the existing ramp to a newly constructed ramp to the right. Drivers who wish to remain on I-16 westbound will continue using the existing travel lanes.
Also beginning at 9 p.m. on January 30, GDOT crews will install a left lane closure on I-16 eastbound between mile marker 1 and mile marker 2.5. During that closure, existing striping will be removed and restriped as traffic is shifted onto newly constructed lanes.
At the same time, a right lane closure will be in place on I-16 westbound from mile marker 0 to mile marker 2. Crews will remove and restripe existing pavement markings, including access to Exit 1B. Once work is complete, traffic will transition onto newly constructed and striped lanes.
Additional overnight work is scheduled earlier in the week. From Monday, January 26 through Friday, January 30, lane closures will be in place nightly from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Spring Street to allow crews to install lighting and remove bridge overhangs.
GDOT also says a left lane closure and pacing operation will take place the night of Monday, January 26 on I-16 eastbound between mile markers 1 and 2 to allow for barrier wall repairs.
Drivers are urged to slow down in work zones and plan for delays during overnight construction.
