West Laurens sophomore killed, twin brother and mother hospitalized after crash
Investigators say a northbound truck crossed the center line on State Route 31 and hit a car carrying a mother and her twin sons.

DEXTER, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A West Laurens High School student was killed and two family members were seriously injured in a head-on crash early Sunday morning.
According to Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened around 12:44 a.m. Sunday on State Route 31, just south of State Route 117. Investigators said a green Ford Ranger traveling north crossed the center line “for an unknown reason” and hit a red Kia Soul traveling south. The crash happened in the southbound lane, causing the Ford Ranger to overturn and the Kia Soul to leave the roadway.
According to GSP, the Kia Soul was occupied by a mother and her twin sons. The driver and back seat passenger were airlifted to hospitals in Macon and Augusta, while the front seat passenger died at the scene.
The Laurens County School District identified the student killed as sophomore Isaiah Freeman. In a Facebook post, the district said Isaiah, his twin brother Jeremiah, and their mother were in the crash.
“Our West Laurens Raiders and Team Laurens family are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our beloved student, sophomore Isaiah Freeman,” the district said. “His kind heart and respectful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.”
The district said donations are being collected at West Laurens High School to help with medical and funeral expenses. Checks can be made payable to West Laurens High School with a note for Isaiah and Jeremiah Freeman’s family. A GoFundMe page and CashApp account ($MaiaRaven) have also been set up to support the family.
Students are being encouraged to wear purple or lime green Tuesday in honor of Isaiah. Counselors and social workers will be available to support students and staff.
GSP said EMS took the male driver of the Ford Ranger to Fairvew Park Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
