UPDATE (10 p.m.) – The Milledgeville Police Department Facebook post announcing a ban on Splatter and Orbeez gun games has been removed. We’ve reached out to the police department for clarification.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Milledgeville Police Department (MPD) announced Monday an immediate ban on Splatter and Orbeez gun games within city limits, citing numerous complaints and public safety concerns.

According to a post on the MPD Facebook page, engaging in these activities in public areas such as roadways, parking lots, and parks will now be classified as disorderly conduct, carrying a fine of up to $500.00. Police say parents or guardians will also be held accountable if individuals under the age of 16 participate in these activities.

In the post, Chief of Police Dray Swicord called the decision “regrettable.”

“What began as innocent amusement has resulted in ongoing disturbances and injuries to individuals not involved in the games,” Swicord wrote. “To mitigate further risks and ensure public safety, all such activities must now be conducted on private property with explicit permission from the owner.”

The Milledgeville Police Department says it’s committed to supporting community members who wish to organize these events responsibly. As summer progresses, police personnel will be available to provide guidance and support.

“This notice serves as official warning, and henceforth, no further warnings will be issued to those found violating these regulations,” Swicord wrote. “Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.”
