(NBC)- The family of a 63-year-old Brooklyn woman is desperately searching for answers after she disappeared while visiting a friend in Las Vegas.

Alisa Goods was last seen Aug. 8 after leaving her friend’s home to go to a CVS to purchase iron pills and other essentials, according to her family. She never returned.

Her niece, Alanna Calloway, said the family became increasingly concerned when they began receiving mysterious text messages from Goods’ phone days after her disappearance.

The messages appeared to be written by someone posing as Goods and included demands for money and Bitcoin.

Calloway said one message claimed Goods was at a gas station and needed money for her car. That immediately raised concerns because Goods does not drive.

The family said Goods’ son later received a phone call from someone claiming to be his mother and asking him to send money. He recorded part of the conversation, and relatives say the caller’s voice clearly did not belong to Goods.

The family said it has turned the messages and recording over to Las Vegas police but has grown frustrated with the investigation.

Calloway said a detective told her that her aunt was not considered a priority despite the family reporting that someone appeared to have possession of Goods’ phone and was demanding money.

NBC News reached out to Las Vegas police about the family’s claims but had not received a response.

In a separate statement, police said Goods is considered a missing person and that the investigation remains active.
