Warner Robins advances downtown revitalization with ‘Operation Reawaken’
The City of Warner Robins is starting "Operation Reawaken" with the demolition of old structures in the Commercial Circle area of the downtown district.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The City of Warner Robins is starting “Operation Reawaken” with the demolition of old structures in the Commercial Circle area of the downtown district.
Demolition will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m., according to a city news release.
“The demolition initiative is carefully designed to make way for new commercial and residential footprints that align with the city’s vision for a modern, sustainable, and thriving Downtown District,” the release said.
Commercial Circle, the focal point for the city’s long-planned downtown revitalization efforts, starts as South Commercial Circle at Watson Boulevard. After crossing South Davis Drive, it curves to cross over Watson Boulevard, transitioning to North Commercial Circle and ending at North Davis Drive.
In August, Mayor LaRhonda Patrick announced the city’s purchase of seven Commercial Circle properties, using $2 million from 2012-2018 SPLOST revenue. The investment gave Warner Robins ownership of 60% of Commercial Circle, laying the groundwork for the current phase of development.
“The reality of a downtown is going to happen, finally,” Mayor Patrick said in August. “We’re so happy to finally see plans come forth and steps towards really having a downtown happen.”
She said Tuesday the scheduled demolition isn’t just about tearing down old buildings.
“It’s about paving the way for the live, work, play community I campaigned on,” she said. “This initiative is a testament to our commitment to urban renewal and creating spaces that reflect the evolving needs of our community.”
The city, which says the Commercial Circle area will soon “witness a rebirth as dilapidated structures give way to a new era of possibilities,” says it plans to transform the area into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly zone with modern architecture, green spaces and a diverse array of businesses.
