Veterans baseball falls, HoCo waits until Tuesday to decide its fate

KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – For a moment, it was looking good for Veterans.

The Warhawks had taken a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning in their Final Four matchup with Carrollton and were just three outs away from moving to 1-0 in the three-game series.

But then, in the top of the 7th, Carrollton tied it at two.  Later in the inning, Will Hesterlee’s 3-run homerun gave Carrollton a 5-2 lead.

Veterans added a run in the bottom of the seventh but that’s all it could do.  The Warhawks also gave up five runs in Game 2, falling 5-4 in a game that ended their season.

HoCo plays Game 3 Tuesday in Gainesville

Houston County’s baseball team won Game 1 of their Final Four series at Gainesville Monday, 6-2.  In a back-and-forth Game 2, the Bears fell short, 13-7.  Game 3 Tuesday will decide which team moves on to the Class 5A championship game.

Stratford moves on in GISA playoffs

Stratford scored early and often in Game 2 of their quarterfinal matchup with Brookwood Monday.  The Eagles won 15-4 in 5 innings and advanced to this weekend’s semifinals at Tiftarea.

Tattnall advanced to the semifinals earlier this week.  They’ll host Southland this weekend.
