UPDATE: Reynolds City Clerk arrested, GBI investigating stolen money

REYNOLDS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Reynold’s city clerk at the center of a GBI investigation turned herself into the Taylor County jail Wednesday.  Authorities tell 41NBC, 44-year-old Tonya Kirksey walked into the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office around 1 p.m. and was arrested.

Kirksey is charged with three counts of theft by conversion, one count of deposit account fraud, and one count of computer theft.

Agents performed a search at Kirksey’s office in Reynolds trying to determine an exact dollar amount that may have been mishandled.

“For theft by conversion charge there is a minimum of a year to the maximum of 15 years,” says GBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Chris DeMarco.

Kirskey remains in Taylor County jail and is awaiting her first appearance and bond hearing before a superior court judge.

The Taylor County sheriff says none of his investigators were involved in the probe.

The GBI has not said how much money was stolen.
