UPDATE: Federal aviation authorities investigating fatal plane crash at Crisp County Airport

CORDELE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – One person is dead and another is injured after a plane crashed at the Crisp County Airport.

The crash happened around noon Thursday during takeoff.

Officials say the pilot, Rene St. Julien, was killed on impact. His wife, Jan, was seriously injured and had to be cut out of the plane. She was taken to a trauma center in Macon for treatment.

The couple was part of a group that flew from West Palm Beach. They were flying to the Wings Over North Georgia air show in Rome.

Officials say the husband and wife were from Port St. Lucie, FL. Rene was a retired air traffic controller and his wife is a retired flight attendant.

The FAA is investigating and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine probable cause.
