Decision 2026 Georgia Votes: Tanya Miller Discusses Public Safety, Consumer Protection And Accountability

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – With Election Day approaching, Decision 2026: Georgia Votes examines the race for Georgia attorney general, featuring an interview with Democratic nominee Tanya Miller.

Miller, a Georgia state representative and former prosecutor, is running against Republican nominee Brian Strickland, a state senator and attorney.

During the episode, Miller discusses her legal background, priorities and plans for the state’s top legal office if elected.

Meet the candidates

Tanya Miller — Democrat

Miller has served in the Georgia House of Representatives since 2023 and chairs the House Democratic Caucus. Her legal career includes work as a federal prosecutor and in the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, where she handled homicide and other criminal cases. She also has experience in civil rights litigation.

Miller says she would focus on combating violent crime, dismantling criminal networks and addressing human trafficking. She has also emphasized protecting children and other vulnerable residents while supporting policies intended to make communities safer.

Consumer protection is another major part of her platform. Miller has called for a stronger role for the attorney general’s office in addressing fraud, unfair business practices and corporate conduct that harms Georgia families.

She has also emphasized government transparency and accountability, saying the office should protect residents regardless of their political affiliation or influence.

Brian Strickland — Republican

41NBC reached out to Strickland’s campaign to arrange an interview for the episode. The campaign initially expressed interest in participating, but did not respond to the station’s follow-up email.

As a result, Strickland does not appear in this episode.

Strickland is a Republican state senator from McDonough and chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee. He previously served in the Georgia House of Representatives and has worked on legislation involving criminal justice, consumer protections and vulnerable populations.

His campaign has highlighted combating violent crime, gangs, human trafficking and illegal drugs. Strickland has also emphasized protecting consumers from scams and fraud, strengthening safeguards for seniors and foster children, and holding people accountable for breaking the law.

Both candidates have identified public safety and consumer protection as priorities, although they bring different professional backgrounds to the race.

The attorney general serves as Georgia’s chief legal officer. The office represents the state in legal proceedings, provides legal advice to state agencies and handles certain criminal prosecutions, including cases involving human trafficking, gang activity and organized crime.

The attorney general can also play a role in protecting consumers, addressing public corruption and determining when the state should pursue or join legal challenges.

The position carries a four-year term and can influence how Georgia enforces its laws and responds to legal challenges affecting residents.

Decision 2026: Georgia Votes is part of 41NBC’s election coverage, designed to help voters learn about candidates, their experience and their priorities before heading to the polls.

Georgia’s general election is Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
