Rhode Island graduate transfer lineman commits to Georgia

ATHENS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A graduate transfer from Rhode Island says he’ll play his final year with the Georgia Bulldogs.

Tyler Catalina, a 6’6″, 298-pound offensive lineman, was originally committed to Iowa State but changed that with a tweet Monday.

“Throughout this tremendously tough process I’ve had the privilege to meet outstanding coaches and people along with getting to experience some amazing places,” the Worchester, Massachusetts native wrote in a post that included a Georgia logo and a photo of the Bulldogs taking the field at Sanford Stadium. “I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me throughout this chapter in my life, and I’d also like to thank all of the schools that have shown interest in me. After much thought and conversation with my family, I have decided to decommit from Iowa State and have decided that I will be playing my final year at the University of Georgia. GO DAWGS!”

Catalina, who started 33 games during his career at Rhode Island, had offers from several other schools, including Auburn and Penn State.
