78-year-old man dies in Monroe County ATV crash

MONROE COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A 78-year-old man died after an ATV struck a tree in Monroe County Friday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 6:11 p.m. to a wooded area off Zebulon Road near Estes Road.

The sheriff’s office identified the man as 78-year-old Dewey Pope.

The sheriff’s office has not said whether Pope was driving the ATV, whether anyone else was involved or what caused the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
