Neighborhood comes together to help family after fire destroys their home
The Monroe County Fire Department is still investigating the log cabin on Barry Drive that went up in flames on Saturday.
The house belongs to a family of four. Two of the children were inside during the fire. Smoke detectors alerted them to get out of the house. They escaped without any injuries.
Neighbors are planning a fundraiser this Saturday afternoon. They’re asking the public to bring gift certificates, clothes, or other donations for the family. It will be at a home at 201 Barry Drive from Noon until 3:00.
“Our biggest concern was the children, coming together we want to make sure they have somewhere to stay,” says neighbor Cortney Brown. “We want to make sure the family is safe.”
Neighbors also tell us that they ask the public to not go near the burned cabin.
“There has been alot of traffic down Barry Drive from curious people, we want them to stop so the insurance company can continue to access the damage,” Brown explained.
