Navicent Health’s ‘Kiss A Pig’ fundraiser earns thousands toward fighting cancer

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Members of the medical community gathered in the parking lot of the Peyton Anderson Cancer Center at Navicent Health Wednesday in Macon to help raise funds for cancer research.

But, they did it in a bit of a different way–by kissing a pig!

Employees were asked to donate $1 per vote to elect the lucky administrator that would get the chance to plant a kiss on the lips of Betty Lou, the pig.
The nurse who originally brought the idea to management said she was inspired after seeing how successful the event was in other parts of the country.

“Every year, the medical center has lots of teams that get together and try to raise money for this great event, and this year we decided to to something different, and we’d seen this fundraiser be very successful other places,” said nurse Jill Hancock.

“I think it was a wonderful cause, and I think it’s something we’re just trying out at the Medical Center, and if it brings the whole, you know, employee and community together, I’m all for it,” said Dr. Fady Wanna, who is the Chief Medical Officer and the lucky winner.

Fun times all around, though maybe not for the pig–she squealed around after the kiss.
The proceeds from the “Kiss the Pig” fundraiser will go to the Bibb County Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
