Mystery Surrounds Daycare Death

Family says they don’t know elderly woman who signed their 4-year-old son out of daycare, moments before he was run over and killed in parking lot.  KPRC’s Jennifer Bauer reports.

A Texas family is demanding answers after a young child died Tuesday when he was struck by an SUV outside a day care center in Harris County.

The 4-year-old has been identified by family members as Anthony Craft.

Harris County sheriff’s deputies said an 81-year-old woman came to pick up her grandchild and another child at the K.D. Learning Center.

Her grandchild was in her Lincoln Navigator and when she started to back up, Anthony was somehow caught between the wheel and another car.  When the woman tried to catch him, she fell out of the SUV.

“The Navigator itself had no one driving it, made a full circle and came to a stop at the entrance to the K.D. Learning Center,” Thomas Gilliland of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said.

The boy’s family say they have no idea who the woman is, or why she was allowed to sign their son out of daycare.

“We don’t know this lady, she has no authorization to pick up my child,” Charles Craft said.  “I don’t know why he was outside the day care when this lady is not supposed to pick up my child.”
