Monroe County deputies investigate separate train accidents

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT ) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is currently working two separate collisions at railroad crossings.

The first incident occurred at a railroad crossing located at Mt. Zion Road and Hwy. 41 near Bolingbroke around 1:40 p.m.

A tractor trailer was struck by a train as it attempted to cross the railroad tracks. The tractor trailer subsequently turned over on its side onto the tracks. No injuries were reported in this accident and the name of the tractor trailer’s driver is not being released at this time.

A second collision occurred a short time later, around 2:00 p.m. in Forsyth at the railroad crossing at Indian Springs Drive and Railroad Avenue. According to deputies on scene, a passenger car was struck by the train, which was traveling southbound. One person was ejected, another was entrapped and a third person injured. Two of those people were transported to the Medical Center in Macon. Names and the nature and extent of injuries is not being released. Deputies are continuing to investigate the collision.
