Mercer men’s lacrosse receives votes in Warrior Media Poll

MACON, Ga. (MERCER RELEASE) – Riding a program-record four-game winning streak, the Mercer men’s lacrosse team made its debut in the Receiving Votes section of the Warrior Division I Men’s Media Top-20 poll as released by Inside Lacrosse on Monday.

Mercer (6-3) is featured alongside six other schools in the Receiving Votes category, establishing the first time the team has been featured in a national poll in the four-year history of the program.

The Bears have already set a school record for single season wins, besting last year’s four-win campaign. The team has won six of its last seven games dating back to Feb. 22 and currently occupies the top spot in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings with a 3-0 league record.

The team’s recent success has been spurred by stout defense, as the Orange and Black have held opponents under 10 goals in four-straight outings. In the latest NCAA statistics report, the squad ranked 24th nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 9.33 goals per game.

Several Mercer players are ranked highly in NCAA statistical categories. Junior midfielder Timmy Geran is ninth among DI players with 2.22 assists per game, while senior attackman Zack Ward ranks 14th with a .463 shot percentage and 16th at 2.78 goals per game. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Nugent is 10th in save percentage (.565) and 16th in goals-against average (8.79).

Mercer returns to action on Saturday, April 5 at Air Force. Game time at Falcon Stadium is set for 12 p.m. ET.
