Mayhem goalie on loan to ECHL team

MACON, Georgia (MAYHEM RELEASE) – Goaltender Garrett Bartus of the Macon Mayhem has been loaned to the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL. The Thunder is the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Calgary Flames.

Bartus is the leader, or near the top, of all major goaltending categories in the Southern Professional Hockey League this season. He is far and away the leader in saves with 1,015 (Huntsville’s Kevin Genoe is second with 742). Bartus is tied for second in wins with 14 (behind only Peoria’s Kyle Rank with 15), is fourth in save percentage at .929, and seventh in goals against average at 2.40

“Garrett has certainly earned this opportunity to move up to a higher level,” Mayhem coach Kevin Kerr said. “This is what our league is about, helping players move along and shows what you can achieve when you work hard like Garrett.”

Kerr said he’s not sure exactly how long Bartus will be with Adirondack but expects it to be multiple weeks. He expects to sign another goaltender as soon as possible but was not at liberty to mention any names until a contract is signed.

The Mayhem plays at Huntsville on Sunday and returns home against Pensacola on Friday February 19.
