Macon developers look into offices as potential loft space

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – As new land developments continue to pop-up around downtown Macon, local leaders consider residential opportunities, including loft space.

C.E.O. of NewTown Macon, Josh Rogers says there’s an increase in the demand to live downtown that developers are hoping to supply in the near future. 

He adds renovating building like the government annex building can increase the number of lofts downtown.

“I think that’s gotten the mayor’s wheels turning, and now commission’s engaged on investigating whether the annex building is best used as public offices, or maybe that could be a really cool loft development downtown too,” says Rogers. 

In 2011, developers produced four units. By the end of 2013, a total of 150 loft units in downtown were available. 

“The market has been booming in the past two years and 95% of those units are full,” says Rogers.

He adds there is more than a million square feet of space available downtown to use for future lofts development.
