Laurens Co. homeowner cleans up after storm

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Homeowners in Laurens County are cleaning up after the big storm.

There were some splintered trees in his yard, but Danny Evans has kept himself together.

“Got a lot of tree damage,” said Evans.”We’re going to start out small, and gonna get the big trees off the house.”

His house seemed nearly buried by trees brought down by the storm.

“We’re gonna get the trees cut where you can get into the driveway,” said Evans.

A few friends and family are helping clear it up.

And it’s that community Laurens County EMA Director Don Bryant is proud of.

“They want to help other people and when you have community relationships like that it makes it a little bit easier, you don’t have to bear the the brunt or the blow by yourself,” said Bryant.

The county worked tirelessly to prepare for the storm, and is assessing damage.

“We’ve been going back around and trying to make sure that we get any danger items like trees and power lines and get them taken care of,” said Bryant.

But those are small matters compared to what’s important.

“We were very fortunate this time. It could’ve been a lot worse,” said Bryant. “We did have some pretty strong winds that came through, but it was a pretty narrow strip and we didn’t have any fatalities involved in it so I consider the Lord really blessed us and looked out for us.”

Bryant says there were 16 residents affected, with four minor injuries.

He says the county is still assessing damage.
