Hall garners Lou Henson Award for top Mid-Major player

DALLAS, Texas (MERCER RELEASE) – Mercer senior point guard Langston Hall was honored as the 2014 Lou Henson Award winner, presented annually to the top mid-major player in Division I college basketball by CollegeInsider.com as a part of Final Four weekend.

Hall beat out 29 other finalists for the award after leading Mercer to a 27-9 overall record and appearance in the NCAA Tournament Round of 32.  The selection is the latest in a long list of postseason accolades for Hall, who was named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, first team All-Atlantic Sun, A-Sun Tournament MVP and AP All-American Honorable Mention recipient.

Hall sported team-leading averages of 14.6 points, 5.4 assists and 1.4 steals in 2013-14 to cap an outstanding four-year career in Orange and Black.  During his senior campaign, Hall broke the Atlantic Sun Conference record for career assists while also becoming Mercer’s all-time leader in steals and 3-pointers made.

On Friday afternoon, Hall started for the East team in the NABC Reese’s Division I College All-Star game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.  He finished the showing with a game-high six assists, two points and two rebounds in 21 minutes of work while leading his squad to an 87-75 victory.

Previous recipients of the awards include Matthew Dellavedova (Saint Mary’s 2013), Kyle O’Quinn (Norfolk State 2012), Matt Howard (Butler 2011) and Keith Benson (Oakland 2010).  The award is named in honor of Lou Henson, who coached for 41 years at Illinois and New Mexico State.
