Flights to Washington, D.C. now flying into BWI

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – You can now purchase your tickets for flights to Washington, D.C. out of Macon. The big announcement was made Wednesday afternoon at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport. Also announced, Contour Airlines will now fly Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) instead of Washington Dulles International.

Middle Georgia Regional Airport manager, Erick D’Leon, says this is a change passengers will like.

“Baltimore is a much more passenger friendly airport,” said D’Leon. “More convenient, less walking, better connectivity options on the ground.”

D’Leon continued by saying this will help service different markets as well, like Baltimore, D.C. and Chesapeake Bay.

“It’s about the same distance into Downtown Washington,” said Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert.

CEO of Contour Airlines, Matt Chaifetz says the airline will be unlike any other.

“We have long history of reliable operations,” said Chaifetz. “We have really invested in the product that we’re going to be delivering here.”

Flights will make two daily round trips. Twelve total every week.

“We’re offering non-stop jet service on an airplane that’s been reconfigured to seat just thirty passengers,” said Chaifetz. “Where every seat has first class leg room, same amount of leg room as domestic carriers offer in first class cabins.”

“Contour Airlines is going to shape the way you travel,” said Mayor Reichert. “Contour Airlines is going to shape the future of Middle Georgia Regional Airport.”
