Event celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month in Macon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Hispanic Heritage month is here. The nationally celebrated month began September 15th, and goes until the October 15th. Middle Georgia is taking part in celebrating.

There is Hispanic Heritage Celebration happening at Smiley’s Flea Market Sunday, September 17th. There will be food, folk dances, games, prizes and music.

Organizer, Moises Velez says it’s mostly a time, to come together.

“During this time everybody is so stressed. Especially with the Hurricane on my island, Puerto Rico and the earthquake in Mexico,” said Velez. “This is a time that we can come together and relax, have music and be ourselves.”

The celebration starts at 11 AM and goes until 5 PM. It is a free event, so Velez invites you to come and get a taste of different cultures in the Hispanic community.
