Chilly Temperatures Hang Around for a Few Days
MACON, Georgia. (41NBC/WMGT) – Temperatures are going to run fifteen to twenty degrees below average across much of Middle Georgia today.
Yesterday we had a cold front pass through that brought light showers to Middle Georgia, but the main story has been the cold temperatures that have been ushered in behind the front. Afternoon high temperatures today will struggle to get out of the 40’s and overnight low temperatures will be below the freezing mark. We have not seen temperatures this cold since the middle of March. When you factor in a northwest wind that will be coming in at five to ten miles per hour the wind chill will be in the low 20’s.
Safety Tips for Cold Weather:
- Dress in layers. Wearing a wind resistant outer layer will help.
- Bring in pets!
- Let water faucets drip to not prevent pipes from freezing.
Tomorrow is going to be a repeat of today as temperatures struggle to make it out of the 40’s even though we have plenty of sunshine. An area of high pressure off to our west will begin to slide to the east over the next several days. This system will keep us dry for the most part of the work week until moisture returns late Friday.
Rain returns to Middle Georgia Friday evening ahead of a cold front that has the potential to bring thunderstorms, some potentially strong to severe, on Saturday. Once that front clears out I do expect for us to stay in wet pattern for a few days as rain hangs around through the start of the next work week. Chief Meteorologist Cecilia Reeves and myself will continue to monitor the evolving storm system this week as it moves our way and will keep you informed if any threats were come to Middle Georgia.
