Acuña, Albies staying with Braves for 2027 season
Acuña will make $17 million next season, while Albies will earn $7 million before becoming eligible for free agency.

ATLANTA (41NBC/WMGT) – Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies will remain under contract with the Atlanta Braves for 2027 after the team exercised both players’ club options, according to MLB.com.
A club option gives a team the choice to keep a player for another season at a salary already included in his contract.
Acuña will make $17 million next season. Atlanta can decide later whether to exercise another $17 million option for 2028.
The 2023 National League MVP hit .255 with 20 home runs and 21 stolen bases in 107 regular-season games this year. He missed about a third of the season because of two left hamstring injuries.
Albies will make $7 million in 2027. He will be eligible for free agency after next season unless he signs another contract before then.
Albies hit .237 with 22 home runs and a .685 OPS during the regular season. He recorded a 1.067 OPS during the playoffs.
The Braves also reinstated pitchers Spencer Schwellenbach, Spencer Strider, Hurston Waldrep and Joey Wentz from the 60-day injured list to the team’s 40-man roster.
That roster move does not necessarily mean all four pitchers will be ready for the start of next season. MLB.com reports some could begin 2027 on the injured list.
Ten other players became free agents Thursday: Mauricio Dubón, Tyler Mahle, Raisel Iglesias, Joe Jiménez, Martin Pérez, Brent Suter, Ha-Seong Kim, Lane Thomas, Dominic Smith and Rowdy Tellez.
