Centerville aims for town center upgrade

CENTERVILLE, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – “A lot of the residents in Eagle Springs are excited,” said Eagle Springs Homeowner’s Association President Richard Beladino.

Eagle Springs is a beautiful neighborhood in Centerville.

“We’re one of the larger, if not the largest community in Centerville,” said Beladino. “We have about 820 homes.”

Those 820 homes–including homeowner’s association president Richard Beladino–and the rest of the city will have another beautiful place to go to soon–Center Park at Centerville.

“I wish it would be built tomorrow because I for one would be over there everyday,” said Beladino.

It’s a short drive for Beladino–Eagle Springs is just a mile from the future site of the park on E. Church Street.

“They could have a cookout or a movie night, have small parties there, have gatherings for children, gatherings for adults,” said Beladino.

That’s the kind of flexibility the city’s Director of Economic Development and Marketing Kate Hogan looked for in the plans.

“The event possibilities here are endless. You can have tents all the way down to the treeline and it would be an incredible time,” said Hogan.

Her pleasant surprise was how much residents wanted to be involved.

“It’s really important when you have a new project like this that may seem a little daunting to have the buy in from citizens and especially the organizations that they belong to,” said Hogan.

That kind of support does need the financial backing as well.

“We want to make sure we are fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars that’s important to us here at the city,” said Hogan.

The city plans to partner with private entities and build the park in stages–which Beladino is looking forward to.

“I think it adds tremendous–I think it adds a lot to the city of Centerville,” said Beladino. “It adds a lot to Warner Robins–it’s not just for the residents of Centerville, it’s for residents everywhere.”

The park should be done around April of 2017.
