Band of the Week: Macon County High School
This week’s 41NBC Band of the Week spotlight shines on Macon County Marching Bulldogs Band.
Under the direction of Isaiah Ellis, the band has grown from just 15 students to 46 this year. Even more impressive, nearly 90% of the students had never played an instrument before the start of the school year.
Despite being new to their instruments, the students are making remarkable progress.
“This year we have grown from 15 to 46 students, and I can tell you, 90% of the students have never played an instrument until the first day of this school year, but if you hear them, you wouldn’t be able to hear the difference,” Ellis said.
This season’s show pays tribute to several HBCUs, including Fort Valley State University, Tuskegee University, Albany State University and Miles College. The production incorporates elements of the style and traditions these universities are known for during their own marching band performances.
Congratulations to Macon County High School for being named this week’s 41NBC Band of the Week, sponsored by Young America Music Schools!
