Bobcat Men Take Fifth at PBC Championship

AMERICUS, Ga. (GCSU RELEASE) – The Georgia College men’s cross country team competed in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championship Saturday in Americus, Ga., placing fifth out of 10 teams. Sophomore Michael Warrick (Marietta, Ga.) came one second from the Bobcats’ 8K record in today’s action.

The Bobcats were led by Warrick, who crossed the line in a time of 26:12 in the 8K race, good for 20th in the field of 85. Warrick came one second behind the record set by Daniel Horseman at the ASU Tri-Meet in 2010.

Finishing right behind Warrick in 21st was classmate Paul McNeil (Dunwoody, Ga.), posting a time of 26:14, good for third in school history. Sophomore Trevor Turner (Snellville, Ga.) came in 23rd, with a time of 26:20, which ranks fifth all-time at Georgia College.

James Ryden (Atlanta) was the fourth Bobcat to cross the line in 26:28, good for 28th place and seventh in the school recordbooks. Rounding out the top five for the Bobcats was freshman Matt Tippins (Hoschton, Ga.) in 35th place with a time of 26:45. The top five runners for Georgia College all crossed the finish line within one minute of each other.

GRU Augusta took home the team title, while Corey Mundy of Flagler College won the individual championship. The second place team was Columbus State University, followed by UNC Pembroke and Flagler, who finished only three points ahead of Georgia College. The Bobcat men’s finish was a one-spot improvement from the 2012 race.

The Bobcats will be back in action Saturday, Nov. 9 when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional.
