Kingston Stops in Macon to Discuss Syria

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Congressman Jack Kingston believes the Syria crisis is far from over.

Kingston stopped in Macon Friday afternoon to weigh in on the national debate.

He told 41NBC that congress, the American people, and the international community made the right choice not to support a US air strike.

He also our nation’s leaders need to keep an eye on Russia.

We asked Kingston what he thought of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s warning that was printed in the New York Times. He said this:

“That’s what you deal with when you’re dealing with the Russians. That they’re very slippery and that’s why can’t trust what they’re going to do or not… I do think that the United Nations should step up, play a bigger role in the use of chemical weapons because it is against international laws and treaties,” said Kingston.

Going forward, Kingston is looking to take on a bigger role, as the senator who will replace Saxby Chambliss.

In what’s shaping up to be a crowded Republican primary, Kingston said his military experience in Georgia sets him apart from the rest. He told us it’s important to keep Robins Air Force Base “healthy.”

“I’m very familiar with Warner Robins… and represented Warner Robins for four to six years with base and realignment closures… I’m the one who the most familiarity to it. I serve on the defense committee and it’s a key committee in terms of defense spending,” said Kingston.

He also added, since he is familiar with the middle Georgia landscape, he understands the need to protect the agriculture industry.
