Early Voting Held Monday For Upcoming Election

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A steady crowd of voters flowed through the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections office Monday. It was the first day of early voting.

“I’m here to complete my civic duty as a voter,” said Frank Mack. “Early voting has been a practice for our family for the last several years. So I’m here to have my input into the voting process.”

Those who voted Monday also made history– it was the first time ever Macon-Bibb County held nonpartisans-election.

“Consolidation is rare because we didn’t have this opportunity before,” said Anthony Rymes. “Anybody should come out and vote because your voting for more than just one thing at a time.”

Voters gave many reasons for casting their ballots early, including avoiding long lines, bad weather and wanting to be among the first to vote.

“I make sure I vote,” said Janie Goodrum. “I don’t want to miss, and I want to be with the crowd, doing right. When you’re the right man I voted for, that’s what he’s going to be.”

Voting continues through Sept. 13, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m., and 5:30 pm.

“You never know when voting day comes around whether lines are long or bad weather,” said Benjamin Sullivan. “I encourage people to come out today, start voting today. Vote early get your vote in, because your vote counts especially our youth.”
