Bibb School Board Approves New Security Measures

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Parents going to pick up their students at Bibb County Schools will soon see a change in that process.

Thursday, the board of education approved new security measures at the district’s elementary schools.

When visitors approach the building, their image will show up in the office and the office attendant will be allowed to speak to them and verify their identity before unlocking the door.

The system will also send an alert to the office any time a door is left open for an
extended period of time.

The security upgrades also include a change in the district’s radio system.  As of now, school administrators can’t communicate with campus police on their radios when officers are not inside the building.  The system plans to purchase a program that allows administrators to download apps on their smart devices which will allow them one-way conversations with police.

What the board approved is the first phase of a proposed district-wide security overhaul. The first phase will cost $588,000 and will be paid for with penny tax funds.
