EAST DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The East Laurens football team finished 3-8 in Jesse Hicks’ second season in East Dublin, but the Falcons head coach believes consistency will be the key in creating a winning culture with this year’s group.

“You never get to a point where you’re in a state of satisfaction,” Hicks said. “The work has to be done. A lot of people want rings, but they don’t want reps. A lot of people want championships, but they don’t want the work that comes along with the championships. Everybody wants to win on Friday, but not everybody wants the Monday run, and the conditioning, so that’s a mindset.”

Coach Hicks’ messaging has gotten through to his players, whom he feels have progressed from year one to year three.

“It’s very important because we’ve always been underestimated, so consistency is the way if we want to win a state championship,” junior wide receiver Major Floyd added.

“We have to work hard at practice,” senior running back Jeremiah Rozier said. “We have to run hard, lift hard. We’re putting in the hard work and dedication. Now we just have to execute it on Friday nights.”

The Falcons kick off the regular season at home against Johnson County on Aug. 21.
