(CNN)- On July 5, 1994, Jeff Bezos and his then-wife, MacKenzie Scott, founded a company called Cadabra. The business was briefly renamed Relentless before becoming Amazon, which launched as an online bookstore. Today, Amazon is valued at more than $2.5 trillion.

On July 6, 1957, Althea Gibson made history by becoming the first Black player to win the women’s singles title at Wimbledon. She successfully defended her championship the following year and finished her career with 11 Grand Slam titles.

On July 8, 2011, Space Shuttle Atlantis launched on NASA’s final space shuttle mission. The mission delivered supplies and equipment to the International Space Station, and Atlantis’ landing on July 21 marked the end of the shuttle program that began with the launch of Columbia in 1981.
