School rezoning options in Bibb County could change where students attend
District outlines three options and schedules meetings for community feedback

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- The Bibb County School District is studying potential rezoning options following its consolidation review.
The effort follows recommendations from the district’s 2024–25 school consolidation study, which called for both a rezoning review and an operational efficiency study.
The district contracted HPM Leadership to perform a demographic study and work with staff to develop preliminary attendance zone options.
Those options were presented during the April 16th board meeting.
According to the presentation, the options are intended to gather community feedback and could be adjusted or combined before any final recommendations are made.
The study includes enrollment data showing a decline in total student population.
PK-12 enrollment decreased from 21,410 students in the 2020–21 school year to 20,766 in 2025–26, a drop of 644 students.
Projections show enrollment could decline further to 19,846 over the next 10 years.
Options presented to the board
District leaders outlined multiple rezoning options during the meeting:
Option 1 — District-wide boundary changes
- 11 of 19 elementary school boundaries impacted
- 5 of 6 middle and high school boundaries impacted
- Ingram-Pye Elementary feeds to Miller Middle and Central High
- Bruce Elementary feeds to Ballard-Hudson Middle and Southwest High School
- All middle schools feed 100 percent to one high school
Option 2A — L.H. Williams Elementary conversion
- L.H. Williams Elementary converted to an Early Learning Center
- Pre-K classes remain at Alexander II, Burdell-Hunt, Heard and Vineville Academy
- Current Williams Elementary zone split between Hartley Elementary and Ingram-Pye Elementary
- Portion of John R. Lewis zone moves to Hartley Elementary, Ballard-Hudson Middle and Southwest High
Option 2B — L.H. Williams Elementary conversion
- L.H. Williams Elementary converted to an Early Learning Center
- Pre-K classes remain at Alexander II, Burdell-Hunt, Heard and Vineville Academy
- Current Williams Elementary zone moved to Ingram-Pye Elementary School
- No changes at middle and high school level
Community meetings scheduled
Two opportunities are scheduled for the public to review the options and provide feedback:
Monday, April 20 at 5 p.m. at the Professional Learning Center, 2003 Riverside Drive in Macon
Tuesday, April 21 at 5 p.m. during a virtual meeting
District officials are asking families to review the proposed options and consider potential impacts before submitting feedback through an online survey.
They say the survey is intended to gather feedback on the three proposed attendance zone options for possible implementation in the 2027–2028 school year. Officials added that no decisions have been made and encouraged families to share input. Final recommendations, considering that feedback, are expected to be presented to the school board in May.
