FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A traffic stop in Monroe County Wednesday turned into a foot chase that ended when the suspect was hit by a vehicle on Interstate 75, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

GSP says it all started around 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Troopers were patrolling State Route 18 near Interstate 75 when they saw a gray Nissan sedan run a stop sign. Troopers turned on their emergency lights to stop the vehicle, which pulled over at the Circle K.

According to GSP, the driver, who has not been identified, opened the door and began “fidgeting with his pants pockets.” When troopers told him to stay in the car, the driver ran.

Troopers chased him over a fence and across the off-ramp for I-75 South at Exit 185. GSP says the man continued down a hill and onto the shoulder before running into traffic. He made it across several lanes before being hit by a vehicle in the left lane.

GSP says the man was taken to Atrium Health Navicent Medical Center in Macon for treatment. There’s no update on his condition.

Investigators later determined the Nissan was stolen. They say they found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
