Forsyth issues boil advisory after water main break affects multiple areas

The City of Forsyth issued a boil water advisory on Thursday for several neighborhoods and streets after a water main break caused low water pressure, according to a public notice released by the city.

FORSYTH, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The City of Forsyth issued a boil water advisory on Thursday for several neighborhoods and streets after a water main break caused low water pressure, according to a public notice released by the city.

The advisory affects Evergreen Subdivision, Forsyth Landing Subdivision, Village Oak Apartments, Juliette Road, Benson Ham Road, Wilder Drive, South Frontage Road and Joe Chambers Road.

“The total affected area is unknown,” the notice stated.

City officials issued the advisory “out of an abundance of caution,” citing the potential for microbial contamination due to low or no water pressure.

To protect public health, the notice says customers who have experienced water outages and/or low water pressures are advised to use only boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking, cooking or preparing food.

Heat water until bubbles come quickly from the bottom of the container. Continue heating the water for one minute once it begins to boil. Remove the water from the heat source and allow to cool before use.

During the advisory, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends using boiled or bottled water for the following:

  • Drinking
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing food and preparing food and baby formula
  • Making ice
  • Drinking water for pets

Other household uses, such as washing clothes and dishes, can continue without boiling if done properly.

The advisory will remain in effect until testing confirms there is no longer a public health concern. “Customers will be notified immediately when the Advisory is lifted,” the notice said.

Once the advisory ends, residents should flush all faucets for at least two minutes before using tap water for drinking or food preparation.

For questions, residents are asked to contact the City of Forsyth at (478) 994-5649.
