UPDATE (3/18): The Georgia Department of Transportation says the eastbound lanes of Highway 96 between Robert Bryson Smith Parkway and County Road will remain closed through Thursday after a sinkhole caused the road to close on Tuesday.
According to a GDOT news release, contractors will be repairing the road. Westbound traffic will remain open.
“Drivers are urged to proceed with caution through the work zone and to be alert to the workers and their equipment,” the release said.

WARNER ROBINS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A sinkhole has caused the closure of the eastbound lanes of Highway 96 between Robert Bryson Smith Parkway and County Road, according to a Facebook post by the City of Warner Robins Tuesday afternoon.
The post, made just after 4 p.m., says the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is on-site assessing the situation, and drivers are urged to use alternate routes.
The City of Warner Robins says it will provide updates as more information becomes available.
