The 60th annual St. Patrick’s Festival in Dublin is officially underway.

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The 60th annual St. Patrick’s Festival in Dublin is officially underway.
The traditional St. Patrick’s Pancake Supper at Dublin Middle School opened the events on Thursday.
Volunteers flipped nearly 30,000 pancakes, serving around 5,000 people.
Albert Hood, a longtime member of the Exchange Club of Dublin, has been part of the supper for nearly five decades.
“I joined the club in June of 1976, so this is my 49th pancake supper,” Hood said. “I do this because just the services we provide to the community. I’ve always said that Exchange is the rent that I pay for the quality of the community that I live.”
The St. Patrick’s Festival started in 1966 thanks to local radio personality, Dick Killebrew, who celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by playing Irish music and telling Irish stories and jokes. It continues for 50 days, according to the festival website.
The parade is one of several events set for this Saturday, dubbed “Super Saturday.”
