Florida man arrested in Monroe County with stolen vehicle

MONROE COUNTY , Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Florida man is facing charges in Monroe County after deputies say they located a stolen vehicle connected to a burglary in Florida.

According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 4:06 p.m. Thursday, July 30, to a be-on-the-lookout alert for a stolen vehicle out of Bay County, Florida.

Investigators said the driver fled from deputies in Florida after allegedly burglarizing the home of an elderly man and stealing property and the victim’s vehicle.

Using FLOCK camera technology, Monroe County deputies located the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the High Falls Inn and Suites with the driver still inside.

Deputies identified the driver as 31-year-old Trey Buntin of Panama City, Florida. He was taken into custody without incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies searched the vehicle and recovered property reported stolen from the Florida victim.

Buntin is charged with theft by bringing stolen property into the state, theft by receiving stolen property and intentionally covering the vehicle identification number to conceal the identity of the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said Buntin also faces additional charges in Florida.

He is being held without bond at the Monroe County Jail.
