ADRIAN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Johnson County man accused of conducting illegal prison drops has been arrested, along with his girlfriend, after law enforcement reported finding 1.5 pounds of suspected methamphetamine, a stolen firearm and a large drone at his home, according to Johnson County Sheriff Greg Rowland.

On Wednesday, February 5, the Georgia Department of Corrections received information that 35-year-old Jeremiah Shad Garnto, was involved in smuggling contraband into multiple prisons across the state. Authorities said Garnto has a history of prison drops and has previously served time for similar offenses.

The following day, multiple agencies executed a search at Garnto’s home on Bill Garnto Road in Adrian and reported finding a large plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine in plain sight. Officers also recovered a firearm reported stolen in Laurens County, a large drone and another firearm.

Garnto’s girlfriend, 30-year-old Charlie Gail Hillis, was at the home during the search and was taken into custody. She has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of a stolen firearm. Garnto later turned himself in at the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and faces the same charges.

Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.

“By collaborating with other law enforcement agencies, we hope to send a collective message that those involved in illegal activities, particularly those related to drugs and firearms, could face significant consequences,” Sheriff Rowland said. “It serves as evidence that when we undertake such initiatives together, the citizens of our communities recognize our commitment not only to enforcement but also to the overall safety of this remarkable county. We hope these arrests help to improve the quality of life for residents in this area.”
