A number of small storms have spread around Middle Georgia for the afternoon. Rain activity should continue through the evening and into the early parts of tonight, bringing nice relief from the sticky heat of the afternoon. The added rain will bring more mosquitos tonight, however, so make sure to wear insect repellent if spending time outdoors. Overnight lows will be in the low to mid 70s under scattered clouds. Ambient wind will be gentle from the south-southeast.

Things will be even hotter around Middle Georgia for the Fourth of July. Following a mostly sunny morning temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s with heat indexes likely reaching into the triple digits for most of the region. Showers and storms will likely begin during the lunchtime hours, becoming more widespread during the heat of the day. In the evening storm activity should begin to calm some, but a few fireworks displays may be affected a bit by the rain. Anyone sitting by a lakeside or in a field to watch fireworks should bring insect repellant; the mosquitos will be out in force.
