MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Middle Georgia has seen many wet weekends this year, and that is once again the case as the 42nd Annual Cherry Blossom Festival begins.

The Rest of the Evening

Afternoon thunderstorms will turn into evening rain and eventually showers as time goes by. It will be a very muggy night with low temperatures only expected to drop into the low to mid 60s. Fog will be possible under the mostly cloudy skies, and a few showers could also linger after midnight. Winds will largely come from the west at about 5-10 mph.

Tomorrow

It will be a cloudy start with the possibility for a few showers early (mainly the southern counties), however in the afternoon some breakage in the clouds is expected as temperatures climb into the upper 70s and lower 80s. It will be sticky as dew points remain in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Expect breezes of 5-12 mph gusting to 20 mph from the west-northwest throughout the afternoon.

Overnight clouds will return as more rain is expected Sunday. Some of that rain could begin to move in ahead of the sunrise on Sunday. Low temperatures will be in the mid to upper 50s to begin St. Patrick’s Day.

Sunday is St. Patty’s day as well as the day of the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Macon (3 PM EDT). Events on Sunday will likely be impacted by rain to some degree, especially over the southern half of the region where the odds of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon is higher. This rain will likely be on and off throughout the day before slowing in the evening. Skies will remain cloudy into the overnight hours before beginning to clear around sunrise Monday morning.

It will be a cooler start to next week following Sunday’s cold front, and it could get cold enough during the overnight hours Monday night/Tuesday morning that farmers need to protect their crops. Freeze alerts will be in effect if necessary.
