UPDATE: Sheriff’s office identifies person found dead in Flint River near Taylor-Crawford line

UPDATE (8/17/26): The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the person found dead Friday in the Flint River near the Taylor-Crawford county line as Sidney Wainwright of Butler, according to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the death appears to have been accidental and there is no indication of foul play. A specific cause of death was not released.

TAYLOR COUNTY, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A body was found Friday afternoon in Taylor County.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, it received a call around 2 p.m. of a possible drowning at the Flint River Bridge located at Highway 128, at the Crawford and Taylor County line.

The sheriff’s office says it was assisted by GBI, Butler Fire/Rescue and DNR in recovering a deceased individual.

They say the investigation is in its early stages, and no further information is available at this time.
