White Road in Byron to close for 35 days starting June 2 for roundabout construction

BYRON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – White Road in Byron will close for 35 days beginning Monday, June 2, as crews complete construction on a new roundabout at the intersection with Peavy and Williams Roads, according to a Facebook post from the City of Byron.

The closure will also impact Peavy Road and Williams Road at the construction zone. City officials said they recognize the inconvenience for drivers, especially since White Road is a major route in and out of town.

“Yes, we explored whether it could be done without closing the road,” the post said. “No, the contractor cannot do one half at a time. The closure is the fastest way to get the construction done.”

Access will still be available to homes and businesses on White Road, as well as Peavy Road from Watson Boulevard (247C) and Williams Road from Dunbar Road. The closure will be limited to the area nearest the intersection.

“Thanks to all for your understanding and patience,” the post continued. “Things will be better there once this project is complete.”
