Wesleyan’s President Ruth Knox announces retirement

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Ruth Knox says Wesleyan College means the world to her. That’s why it’s bittersweet for her to retire after 15 years.

She said today the 2016-2017 school year would be her last.

“I was born to a Wesleyan mother and a Wesleyan trustee, then I was a student here and was involved as an alum and a trustee and President so I’ll never really go away,” Knox said with a laugh.

It’s the perfect time for Knox to leave. The strategic plan that begun in her first year, will conclude in her last year.

During Knox’s tenure of leadership, Wesleyan grew academic programs, scholarships and saw the addition of a new education building for the first time in 40 years. She also lead the charge for a stronger relationship with the United Methodist Church and Guangzhou University, bringing more than 100 Chinese students to Central Georgia.
