Veterans falls in Class AAAA semifinals

KATHLEEN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Veterans baseball team just couldn’t get the bats going.

The Warhawks, playing Whitewater in the GHSA Class AAAA semifinals Monday, were swept 1-0 and 5-1.

Neither team had much success at the plate in Game 1. A run wasn’t scored until the eighth inning, and it came on a sacrifice fly by the Wildcats.

Jake Lee, a Georgia Tech commit, was brilliant on the mound for Whitewater, pitching a shutout for seven innings, striking out 11 and giving up just two hits.

Colby Taylor got the save for the Wildcats.

The Warhawks did manage a run in Game 2, but that was it. Whitewater won 5-1.

It will face the Cartersville-Buford winner in the Class AAAA title series. Heavy rains in Cartersville Monday postponed that doubleheader until Tuesday.
