Veterans alum wins clay target shooting national title
Last month, Jackson, a Veterans High School graduate, made grandpa’s wish come true. The Emmanuel College sophomore beat out more than 400 competitors at the 2014 Association of College Unions International (ACUI) nationals in San Antonio to take home the national title in Men’s American Skeet. He was one of just four shooters at the event to score a perfect 100. His flawless score put him in the final round, from which he eventually emerged as champion.
41NBC caught up with Jackson Sunday at the Ocmulgee River Gun Club.
“I have a great passion for it,” he says. “It’s fun and easy to do it, once you get used to it of course. It takes a lot of practice to get really good.”
Jackson says he practices four to five times every week. Earlier this year, he took home the gold in International Skeet and bronze in International Trap at the ACUI East Coast Regional International Championships.
He’s attending Emmanuel with help from both academic and clay target shooting scholarships.
