UPDATE: Laurens County man dead after New Year’s Eve shooting

DUBLIN, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office is looking for “two people of interest” after a fatal shooting on New Year’s Eve.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of two people shot at an East Dublin home on North Highway 319 around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Laurens County Coroner Richard Stanley tells 41NBC 25-year-old Antone Perry Johnson was pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m.

The sheriff’s office says 17-year-old Peter Vanderlin was also shot. He was taken to the hospital. His father, Peter Vanderlin, tells 41NBC Vanderlin is in stable condition, but will have a very long road to recovery.

Vanderlin says he was out of town when the shooting happened, but his brother saw Johnson and his son go into the home. Then he heard gunshots.

“My son come out the front door, told my brother he’d been shot and my brother took him over there and after he got him situated a little bit, that’s when he went and found Antone,” recalled Vanderlin.

Vanderlin’s father says someone was staying in his home at the time of the shooting, but we have not been able to confirm with authorities whether this person is a possible suspect.

Investigators took Vanderlin’s surveillance footage from the cameras outside of his home. They’re hoping it will give them more insight as to what happened Wednesday night.

Johnson’s family couldn’t bring themselves to go on camera, but they say Antone had a larger than life personality. They’re devastated he won’t be able to see the birth of his child due in a few months.

The sheriff’s office is not releasing the names of the two people of interest.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, you’re asked to call (478) 272-1523.
