UGA’s Andy Landers announces retirement

ATHENS, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – UGA women’s basketball coach Andy Landers announces he’s retiring after 36 seasons.

“I feel blessed to have had the privilege of working at the University of Georgia for the past 36 years,” Landers said in a statement released by the university. “Athens is a wonderful community where I have raised my family and had the unwavering support of my wife Pam, my daughter Andrea and my son Drew.”

Under Landers, Georgia advanced to 20 Sweet 16s, 11 Elite Eights and five Final Fours, including NCAA runner-up finishes in 1985 and 1996. The Lady Bulldogs have also won seven SEC championships and four SEC Tournament titles under Landers.

Georgia went 19-12 in Landers’ final season, falling 75-41 to Tennessee in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals.
