Tucker’s Pick ‘Em: College football picks and previews for Week 8

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – 41NBC’s Tucker Sargent makes his picks in this week’s games of interest.

Record last week: 8-3
Record this year:  59-18

No. 14 Kansas State (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) @ No. 11 Oklahoma (5-1, 2-1 Big 12)
Saturday, October 18 at 12 p.m. ESPN
A week after beating lowly Texas 31-26, Bob Stoops and the Sooners host Bill Snyder’s Kansas State Wildcats.

Coach Snyder’s Cats are ranked 14th.  They’ve only lost one game, but not many are giving them a chance.

I am:

Kansas State 35, Oklahoma 31

Actual Score: Kansas State 31, Oklahoma 30 (WIN)

No. 4 Baylor (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) @ West Virginia (4-2, 2-1 Big 12)
Saturday, October 18 at 12 p.m. FOX SPORTS 1
Baylor’s defense was exposed last week against TCU.

The Horned Frogs racked up 58 points against the Bears but somehow managed to lose the game.

An early game halfway across the country will be a big test for Baylor.  It’s one I think they’ll fail:

West Virginia 38, Baylor 35

Actual Score: West Virginia 41, Baylor 27 (WIN)

Limestone (2-4) @ Fort Valley State (4-2, 3-1 SIAC)
Saturday, October 18 at 2 p.m.
Why didn’t FVSU make this the homecoming game?

It’s the first year Limestone has fielded a football team.  Known as the Saints, they gave up 70 in one of their four losses and 67 in another.

They did beat Paine College last week. The ‘Cats get the Lions next week for homecoming:

Fort Valley State 49, Limestone 21

Actual Score: Fort Valley State 24, Limestone 19 (WIN)

No. 21 Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2 SEC) @ No. 7 Alabama (5-1, 2-1 SEC)
Saturday, October 18 at 3:30 p.m. CBS
Before the Aggies got whooped by Ole Miss last week, I thought they might beat Alabama.

They still could, but I’ll roll with the Tide:

Alabama 28, Texas A&M 17

Actual Score: Alabama 59, Texas A&M 0 (WIN)

Western Carolina (4-2, 2-0 SoCon) @ Mercer (5-2, 1-2 SoCon)
Saturday, October 18 at 4 p.m. ESPN3
The Bears go for their first SoCon home win when they host the Catamounts.

WCU is undefeated in conference play, while the Bears are 1-2.

Those two losses came to two of the league’s defending co-champs by a combined eight points:

Mercer 28, Western Carolina 21

Actual Score: Western Carolina 35, Mercer 21 (LOSS)

No. 10 Georgia (5-1, 3-1 SEC) @ Arkansas (3-3, 0-3 SEC)
Saturday, October 18 at 4 p.m. SEC NETWORK
The Bulldogs stay on the road with their first-ever trip to Little Rock.

The Razorbacks have come oh-so-close to an SEC win twice now, most recently that one-point loss last week to Alabama.

It’d be just like Georgia to lose after such an impressive win, but the ‘Dawgs will do enough to win this one:

Georgia 31, Arkansas 28

Actual Score: Georgia 45, Arkansas 32 (WIN)

No. 15 Oklahoma State (5-1, 3-0 Big 12) @ No. 12 TCU (4-1, 1-1 Big 12)
Saturday, October 18 at 4 p.m. FOX SPORTS 1
Well lookie there.  It’s another Top 15 matchup in the Big 12.  I guess the conference isn’t dead after all.

This one pits the Cowboys against the Horned Frogs.

Does TCU have anything left in its tank after that 61-58 loss to Baylor last week?

TCU 45, Oklahoma State 37

Actual Score: TCU 42, Oklahoma State 9 (WIN)

Tennessee (3-3, 0-2 SEC) @ No. 3 Ole Miss (6-0, 3-0 SEC)
Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m. ESPN
The SEC’s best defensive line takes on the SEC’s most inexperienced offensive line.

It won’t be easy for Tennessee to run the ball, so Justin Worley will need to play a monster game.

Defensively, the Vols may actually have a decent day:

Ole Miss 27, Tennessee 17

Actual Score: Ole Miss 34, Tennessee 3 (WIN)

Missouri (4-2, 1-1 SEC) @ Florida (3-2, 2-2 SEC)
Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m. ESPN2
The Gators stay home for another SEC game after a heartbreaking loss to LSU.

They need some help, and so does Missouri.  The Tigers lost 34-0 at home last week to a Todd Gurley-less Georgia team.

May the best team win:

Florida 20, Missouri 13

Actual Score: Missouri 42, Florida 13 (LOSS)

Georgia Tech (5-1, 2-1 ACC) @ North Carolina (2-4, 0-2 ACC)
Saturday, October 18 at 7 p.m. ESPNU
The Yellow Jackets’ time in the Top 25 didn’t last long, and it wasn’t much fun while it lasted.

Duke’s first win in Atlanta since 1994 ended any hopes Tech had at an undefeated season.

Now they hit the road to face a team that’s desperate for a conference win:

Georgia Tech 31, North Carolina 24

Actual Score: North Carolina 48, Georgia Tech 43 (LOSS)

Kentucky (5-1, 2-1 SEC) @ LSU (5-2, 1-2 SEC)
Saturday, October 18 at 7:30 p.m. SEC NETWORK
The Wildcats have won three straight games since their triple overtime loss at Florida.

The Tigers just beat Florida, but it wasn’t easy.

This one won’t be either:

LSU 27, Kentucky 24

Actual Score: LSU 41, Kentucky 3 (WIN)

No. 5 Notre Dame (6-0) @ No. 2 Florida State (6-0, 4-0 ACC)
Saturday, October 18 at 8 p.m. ABC
Notre Dame vs. Florida State is a classic in itself, but throw in the fact both of them are ranked in the Top 5, and it gets even more special.

The Seminoles can almost taste a spot in the College Football Playoff.

After they take care of the Fighting Irish, they probably won’t see another Top 25 opponent until the ACC title game:

Florida State 42, Notre Dame 27

Actual Score: Florida State 31, Notre Dame 27 (WIN)
